Sir Willard Wentworth White, OM, CBE was born on October 10, 1946 in Kingston,
Jamaica. Inspired by Nat King Cole and Paul Robeson, he trained at the Jamaican
School of Music and later studied with Giorgio Tozzi at the Juilliard School.
White made his operatic debut as Jim in Huckleberry Finn in May 1971. His career
included roles such as Colline in La bohème with New York City Opera and Seneca
in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea. He performed at major opera houses
worldwide, covering a wide range of bass-baritone roles from Mozart to Wagner.
