Virus was founded in La Plata, Argentina, on 11 January 1980 by the Moura
brothers, with Federico Moura as lead vocalist. The group emerged from the local
punk scene, quickly adopting a new‑wave aesthetic that blended rock and synth
textures. Their breakthrough came with the 1981 debut album Wadu‑Wadu, featuring
singles such as "Wadu‑Wadu" and "Soy moderno, no fumo", which secured a strong
