Virginia Liston, born around 1890 in Louisiana, was an American blues and jazz
singer. By age ten, she lived in New Orleans with her family and began
performing in local theaters by 1909. From 1920 to 1923, Liston performed as a
duo with her husband, pianist Sam Gray, known as Liston and Liston, on the
Theatre Owners Booking Association (T.O.B.A.) vaudeville circuit. In 1923,
Liston also made her first recordings for Okeh Records, recording with Clarence
Williams and his Blue Five on "You've Got the Right Key, but the Wrong Keyhole"
