Vera Hall
Vera Ward Hall, known as Vera Hall, was born on April 6, 1902, in Payneville,
Sumter County, Alabama. She was an American folk singer who sang her entire
life, learning songs from her mother Zully Hall and father Agnes Efron. In the
late 1930s, ethnomusicologist John Avery Lomax recorded her for the Library of
Congress, gaining her national exposure. Her recording of "Another Man Done
Gone" was played by the Library of Congress in 1937 and the BBC in 1943. Hall
collaborated with Byron Arnold on a series of recordings that were later
released as Cornbread Crumbled in Gravy in 1984...
