Mildred Pulliam Whitehorn, known professionally as Veda Brown, was born on
December 11, 1949, in Hayti, Missouri. She began her musical journey singing
gospel music at a young age and later performed with a local rock band. In 1971,
she signed with Stax Records under the stage name Veda Brown. Her debut single,
"Living a Life Without Love", was released in 1972. In 1973, Brown achieved her
most significant chart success with "Short Stopping", which reached number 34 on
