Valerie Smith
Valerie Smith, born Valerie Jean Stevens in North Kansas City, Missouri, on July
25, 1966, is an American roots and bluegrass singer, songwriter, and music
instructor. Smith earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of Kansas
City in 1989. After teaching music in Missouri and Tennessee, she relocated to
Nashville, where mentor Charlie Louvin helped her perform on the Grand Ole Opry
and record a duet for her 1998 debut album, Patchwork Heart. Her album releases
included Turtle Wings in 2000, Follow Me Back to the Fold in 2001, No Summer
