Anthony C. "Tony" Mottola was an American jazz guitarist born on April 18, 1918
in Kearny, New Jersey. He began his musical journey playing the banjo before
transitioning to guitar under his father's guidance. His professional career
started in 1936 touring with George Hall’s orchestra and he released his first
recordings as duets with Carl Kress. By age twenty-one, Mottola was a staff
guitarist at CBS Radio, forming the Tony Mottola Trio. He collaborated with
accordionist John Serry Sr. on "Leone Jump" for Sonora Records in 1945.
