Tom Rush, born February 8, 1941 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is an American
folk and blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He began performing in 1961
while studying at Harvard University. His early recordings included Southern and
Appalachian folk songs, Woody Guthrie ballads, and acoustic-guitar blues. Rush
regularly performed at venues such as Club 47 coffeehouse in Cambridge and The
Unicorn in Boston. In the late 1960s, he released his breakthrough album The
