Tom Hunter
Tom Hunter, born on September 14, 1946 in Bellingham, Washington, was an
American folk singer best known for his work on children’s music. Hunter wrote
"Back to Work in Youngstown" in 1978, addressing the closure of steel mills in
Ohio. In 1996 he released the album When the Silent Night Starts to Sing,
followed by Still Growing in 2005. Hunter’s songs were covered by artists such
as Willie Nelson, and he maintained a morning radio program on KGO from 1979 to
1984. He died of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease on June 20, 2008, and posthumously
received the Magic Penny Award in 2013.
