Todd Rhodes
Todd Washington Rhodes was born on August 31, 1900, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
He began performing with Bill McKinney's jazz band, McKinney's Cotton Pickers,
in 1921. In 1946, he formed the Todd Rhodes Orchestra and made his first
recordings for Sensation Records in 1947. The group shifted towards rhythm and
blues music under the name Todd Rhodes & His Toddlers. Their instrumental "Blues
for the Red Boy" reached number 4 on the R&B chart in late 1948, followed by
"Pot Likker" at number 3 in 1949. In 1952, Rhodes featured singer Connie Allen,
