Catalino "Tite" Curet Alonso, born on February 12, 1926, in Guayama, Puerto
Rico, was a prolific composer known for his contributions to salsa music. Raised
by his grandmother in Barrio Obrero, San Juan, he wrote his first song at 15.
After studying journalism and sociology at the University of Puerto Rico, Curet
Alonso began composing songs while working for the United States Postal Service.
His breakthrough came in 1965 when Joe Quijano recorded his hit "Efectivamente."
