Timothy Dudley-Smith
Timothy Dudley-Smith, born in Manchester, England, on 26 December 1926, was an
English bishop of the Church of England and a hymnwriter. Educated at Tonbridge
School and Pembroke College, Cambridge, Dudley-Smith was ordained a deacon in
1950 and a priest in 1951. He served as Archdeacon of Norwich from 1973 to 1981
and as Bishop of Thetford from 1981 to 1991. He began writing hymns in the 1950s
and achieved his breakthrough with “Tell Out, My Soul” in 1961. He edited and
