Canadian heavy‑metal band Thor began as a concept project in 1973 under the
names “Thor”, “Centaur” and “Mikl Body Rock”, with Jon Mikl Thor combining
bodybuilding and performance art. The band’s first recording, the EP Muscle Rock
(1977), introduced their “muscle rock” style and attracted attention from
independent labels. In 1977 Thor released the debut album Keep the Dogs Away,
followed by Only the Strong (1985) and Recruits – Wild in the Streets (1986) on
GWR Records, which established a cult following in North America and the UK. The
