The Verlaines
The Verlaines is a New Zealand rock band formed in 1981 in Dunedin, New Zealand.
The group was established by Graeme Downes, Craig Easton, Anita Pillai, Phillip
Higham, and Greg Kerr. They were key figures in the Dunedin Sound movement and
released their debut on the Flying Nun Records compilation Dunedin Double
(1981). The ensemble is recognized for their complex song structures and the
lyrics of Downes. Their signature tracks include “Death and the Maiden” (1983)
and “C.D. Jimmy Jazz & Me” (1983). Their discography includes the albums
Hallelujah All the Way Home (1985) and Bird...
