The Toyes, an American reggae band based in Grants Pass, Oregon, were formed in
1982 by Mawg (Jean-Christophe Kay) and his brother Sky (Michael Kay). Originally
from Waikiki, Hawaii, they wrote their breakthrough song "Smoke Two Joints"
while entertaining friends. The track became an instant hit after its release as
a single in 1982, topping local charts for ten months. In late 1983, due to
legal issues over their name, the band changed from The Toys to The Toyes. Their
debut album The Toyes was released in 1996, followed by Strange Animals in 1999.
