The Swallows
The Swallows, a doo wop band from Baltimore, Maryland, was formed in 1946 as The
Oakaleers, with Lawrence Coxson as the lead vocalist. The group’s early years
saw frequent personnel changes, with members such as Eddie Rich and Frederick
Johnson joining before the band adopted its final name in 1949, inspired by the
Ink Spots song "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano." In 1951, the
Swallows secured a contract with King Records in Cincinnati, releasing the
