The Sound was an English post-punk ensemble from South London established in
1979. The group consisted of the musicians Adrian Borland, Graham Bailey,
Michael Dudley, and Colvin "Max" Mayers. They achieved professional recognition
for a musical style characterized by post-punk and gothic rock. The ensemble was
founded from the remnants of the ensemble The Outsiders. Their recording career
