The Queers, an American punk rock band, were formed in 1981 in Portsmouth, New
Hampshire by Joseph “Joe” P. King (a.k.a. Joe Queer), Scott Gildersleeve (a.k.a.
Tulu), and John “Jack” Hayes (a.k.a. Wimpy Rutherford). Influenced by bands like
the Ramones and Black Flag, they released their first EP, Love Me, in 1982,
followed by Kicked Out of the Webelos in 1984. After several lineup changes and
hiatuses, The Queers signed with Shakin' Street Records in 1990 to release their
debut album, Grow Up. Their following grew significantly with the release of
Love Songs for the Retarded on ...
