The Mello Kings, formed in 1956 at a high‑school in Mount Vernon, New York,
comprised brothers Jerry Scholl and Bob Scholl, Eddie Quinn, Neil Arena, and
Larry Esposito. Their breakthrough came with the single "Tonite, Tonite" (1957),
written by Billy Myles for the Herald label, which remained on the U.S. pop
chart for more than ten weeks and established the group as a regional hit.
Subsequent releases such as "The Chapel on the Hill" and "Valerie" followed,
