The Matches is an American rock band from Oakland, California, formed in 1997 as
The Locals. The group consisted of Shawn Harris, Matt Esposito, Justin San
Souci, and Matt Whalen. After changing their name to avoid conflict with a
Chicago band, they self-released their debut album E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals
in 2003. The Matches signed with Epitaph Records, which re-released the album in
2004. Their second album, Decomposer, was released in 2006 and reached Number 18
