The Light Crust Doughboys, an American Western swing band from Texas, were
organized in 1931 by the Burrus Mill and Elevator Company in Saginaw. The
group’s formation was initiated by W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel to promote Light
Crust Flour through radio advertising. Their early broadcasts on KFJZ-AM in Fort
Worth included songs such as “Twenty-One Years” and “Chicken Reel.” In 1933, the
band embarked on a goodwill tour for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. The
original group disbanded in 1942 during World War II and later reformed in the
