The Imports were a Chicago punk rock group formed in 1979 by Ben Krug (vocals),
Tom Krug (guitar), and Joe Strell (bass) in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Their
first professional release was the 7‑inch single "Visions of Reality" /
"Darkness of Light" issued in 1980 on Cirkle Records, recorded in the basement
of the Krug family home. The band transitioned from pop‑punk to a melancholic
post‑punk style after their debut at the Ann Arkees club in March 1980, and
played clubs such as The Lucky Number and Tuts. Post‑breakup, members joined
acts including The Vagueleys, Silly Carmichael...
