Terence Blanchard
A New Orleans-born trumpeter born in 1962, Terence Blanchard got his start in
Lionel Hampton's orchestra before joining Art Blakey & the Messengers in 1982,
until his departure in 1986. Influenced by hard bop, he developed a personal
style in his recordings as a quintet with Donald Harrison, then as leader from
1991. Alongside the albums he recorded under his own name, Terence Blanchard
composed extensively for television and film, notably for Spike Lee. The
