Teddie Joe Neeley, born on September 20, 1943, in Ranger, Texas, was an American
singer and actor. He began his music career at age 22 when he signed with
Capitol Records, after which he and his group, The Teddy Neeley Five, released
the album Teddy Neeley in 1966. Neeley gained recognition for his role as Jesus
Christ in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, both on stage and in the 1973 film
adaptation directed by Norman Jewison, earning him two Golden Globe nominations.
Following this success, Neeley released his solo album 1974 A.D. in 1973. He
