Taiguara Chalar da Silva (born October 9, 1945) was a Brazilian MPB, samba,
bossa nova, and jazz singer-songwriter born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Silva grew
up in Rio de Janeiro and studied law at Mackenzie University before beginning a
music career. In 1964, the singer joined the Sambalanço Trio and signed with
Phillips Records. Silva released the debut studio album Taiguara! in 1965 and
became a frequently censored artist under the military dictatorship.Due to
