Susan Werner, born April 6, 1965, in Manchester, Iowa, is an American
singer-songwriter. Werner earned degrees in voice from the University of Iowa
and Temple University, initially aspiring to an opera career before shifting to
songwriting after seeing Nanci Griffith perform. Werner gained recognition in
the folk scene during the early 1990s, releasing a debut album Midwestern
Saturday Night (1993). Subsequent albums included Last of the Good Straight
