Sonora Poncena
La Sonora Ponceña is a Puerto Rican salsa orchestra founded in Ponce on April
20, 1954, by Enrique "Quique" Lucca Caraballo. After reorganizing an earlier
ensemble, Lucca established the group that would become one of the most
influential bands in salsa. His son, pianist Papo Lucca, joined as a child and
later became the band's musical director, helping shape its distinctive sound.
The orchestra gained widespread recognition with albums such as Hacheros Pa' Un
