Joseph Coleman Smith, known professionally as Sonny Knight, was an American
rhythm and blues singer and author born in 1934. Knight moved to Los Angeles in
the 1950s and released the early singles “But, Officer” (1953) and “Baby, Come
Back” (1953). Recognition increased with the recording “Confidential” (1956),
which reached number 17 on the Billboard pop chart and number 8 on the R&B
chart. Their recordings include the single “If You Want This Love” (1964), which
