Sonny James (born James Hugh Loden on May 1 1928 in Hackleburg, Alabama) emerged from a musical family that performed on local radio and in Southern venues, learning mandolin and guitar at age three and later playing on Memphis station WHBQ before being drafted for the Korean War.
