Maki Fujii formed Soft Ballet in 1987 with Ken Morioka and Ryoichi Endo, and the
trio issued the limited single "Tokio Bang!" the same year, marking their first
public appearance. After a brief indie period, Soft Ballet signed with Alfa
Records in 1989 and released the debut album Earth Born, followed by Document
and the mini‑album 3 [drai] in 1990, each showcasing the members’ divergent
styles. The 1991 release 愛と平和 reached the Oricon Top 10, bringing the band
