Shusha Guppy was an Iranian-born singer, writer, and editor who was born as
Shamsi Assār in 1935. She achieved professional recognition in the late 1950s
after studying at the Sorbonne in Paris and is famous for her work in the folk
music tradition and for promoting Persian culture and literature. Following the
encouragement of Jacques Prévert, she recorded her debut EP, “Chansons d’amour
persanes” (1957), under the name Chucha Assar. Her discography includes the
