Shirley Murdock, born Shirley Murdock on May 22, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, is an
American R&B singer-songwriter. She began her career singing gospel music in her
hometown before being hired as a backing vocalist for Roger Troutman's band
Zapp. Her breakthrough came with the single "Girl, Cut It Out", released under
the name Roger (featuring Shirley Murdock) in 1985. In early 1986, she signed
with Elektra Records and released her self-titled debut album Shirley Murdock,
