F. Lamotte Smith, known professionally as Sherrick, was an American soul singer
born on July 6, 1957, in Sacramento, California. Sherrick's professional
breakthrough came when he was signed by producer Raynoma Gordy Singleton, former
wife of Motown founder Berry Gordy. He began his career as the lead singer of
the Motown group Kagny, who recorded a song for the Motown movie The Last Dragon
in 1985. Sherrick signed with Warner Bros. Records in 1987 and released his
self-titled debut album Sherrick, co-produced by Michael Stokes with Raynoma
