Shakti
Shakti is a fusion band founded in 1973 by English guitarist John McLaughlin and
Indian violinist L. Shankar. The group initially formed under the name
Turiyananda Sangit with percussionists Zakir Hussain on tabla and Vikku
Vinayakram on ghatam. Shakti's music combined Carnatic music with elements of
jazz, representing a fusion of Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. Their debut
album, Shakti With John McLaughlin, was released in June 1976 under Columbia
