Sha Na Na, an American rock and roll cover band, was founded in 1969. The group
originated from the traditional a cappella music group Columbia Kingsmen at
Columbia University. Sha Na Na's breakthrough moment came when they were invited
to perform at the Woodstock festival in 1969, thanks to their friendship with
Jimi Hendrix. Their performance of "At the Hop" received a standing ovation and
was featured in Michael Wadleigh's documentary Woodstock, contributing to the
