Serge Chaloff, born on November 24, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts, was an American jazz baritone saxophonist. He began his musical journey on piano at six before teaching himself the baritone saxophone at 12 after hearing Harry Carney. By age 16, he joined Tommy Reynolds’s band, and in 1944 he entered Boyd Raeburn’s orchestra, recording the opening baritone line on "A Night in Tunisia" and meeting Charlie Parker, whose influence shaped Chaloff’s bebop style.
