Savannah Churchill
Savannah Churchill, born Savannah Valentine Roberts on August 21, 1920 in
Colfax, Louisiana, was an American rhythm and blues singer. She began singing in
church choirs and performing as a violinist before leaving a waitressing job in
1939 to pursue a music career. Her first recordings appeared on Beacon Records
in 1942, and she gained a breakthrough with the 1945 single "Daddy Daddy" which
reached number 3 on the R&B chart. In 1947, Churchill’s "I Want To Be Loved (But
Only By You)" topped the charts for eight weeks, establishing her as a leading
