Sanctuary, an American thrash/power metal band from Seattle, was formed in 1985
by vocalist Warrel Dane, guitarists Lenny Rutledge and Sean Blosl, bassist Jim
Sheppard, and drummer Dave Budbill. The group initially gained traction by
performing covers before transitioning to original material. Sanctuary's
breakthrough came when Lenny Rutledge met Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, who agreed
to produce the band. Their debut album Refuge Denied (1988) received positive
