Samuel Blythe Price was an American jazz and boogie-woogie pianist and
bandleader born on October 6, 1908, in Honey Grove. Price achieved professional
recognition for a career that began after he studied the piano with the musician
Portia Marshall Washington and performed as a singer and dancer in local venues
in the mid-1920s. He achieved professional recognition for being hired by the
