Alton Jay Rubin, Sr., known by his stage name Rockin' Dopsie, was an American zydeco musician born on February 10, 1932, in Carencro, Louisiana. He began playing the accordion at age 14 and started performing locally soon after. At 19, Rubin moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he played in clubs with his cousin Chester Zeno on washboard. His breakthrough came in 1976 when he appeared at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and was signed by Sonet Records, releasing his first album Doin' the Zydeco (1976).
