Robert Wilkins
Robert Timothy Wilkins was born on January 16, 1896, in Hernando, Mississippi.
He was an American country blues guitarist and vocalist of African-American and
Cherokee descent. Wilkins began his career performing in Memphis and North
Mississippi during the 1920s and early 1930s. In 1927, he gained local
popularity with an appearance on a Memphis radio station. From 1928 to 1936,
Wilkins recorded for Victor and Brunswick Records. His best-known songs include
"That's No Way to Get Along" (1930) and its reworked gospel version "The
