Robert Edward Jansen, known professionally as Robbie Jansen, was a South African
saxophonist and singer. Jansen began a career in the pop band The Rockets before
shifting to brass instruments after traveling to London. Jansen performed in the
brass section of the jazz-rock group The Pacific Express and achieved national
recognition as a member of the Dollar Brand group, recording for the Mannenberg
(1974) sessions. Jansen is credited with helping define the style known as Cape
