Rick Margitza, born October 24, 1961, in Dearborn, Michigan, is a jazz tenor
saxophonist. He started playing violin at four, taught by his Hungarian Gypsy
violinist grandfather, and later played piano and oboe before settling on tenor
saxophone. In the 1980s, Margitza toured with Maynard Ferguson and Flora Purim.
He moved to New York City in 1988 and began playing with Miles Davis. Between
1989 and 1991, he released three albums for Blue Note Records: Color, Hope, and
