Rex William Stewart Jr., born on February 22, 1907, in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, was an American jazz cornetist. He began his career playing piano
and violin before focusing on the cornet. Stewart started professionally with
the Ragtime Clowns led by Ollie Blackwell and later played with bands including
those led by Willie Lewis, Elmer Snowden, Horace Henderson, Fletcher Henderson,
Fess Williams, and McKinney's Cotton Pickers. In 1934, he joined Duke
Ellington’s orchestra, co-writing songs like "Boy Meets Horn" and "Morning
