American soprano born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, on February 14, 1959, Renée
Fleming made her debut at New York's Metropolitan Opera in 1986. Following
resounding successes at La Scala in Milan and in The Master Singers of Nuremberg
at the Bayreuth Festival, the singer is in demand in opera houses the world
over. Her discography includes dozens of recordings in registers ranging from
Mozart to Benjamin Britten. In addition to the success of Strauss Heroines
