Rebecka Maria Törnqvist was born on 26 April 1964 in Uppsala, Sweden, and
emerged as a jazz and jazz‑pop singer. Her early years were shaped by a period
spent in Lesotho and Kenya, which introduced her to English and African music,
influencing her later stylistic choices. She first appeared on the Swedish jazz
club circuit before releasing the album A Night Like This in 1993, a blend of
jazz and pop that garnered significant attention. The subsequent album Good
