Rancid is an American punk rock band that formed in 1991 in Berkeley,
California. The band was initially formed by Tim Armstrong (vocals, guitar) and
Matt Freeman (bass, vocals), both of whom were previously members of the
influential ska punk band Operation Ivy who created a sound characterized by
fast, energetic punk rock with influences from ska, reggae, and other genres and
known for its catchy melodies, aggressive punk attitude, and socially conscious
