Preston Haynes Love was an American saxophonist, bandleader, and songwriter.
Love began a career as a sideman during the big band era, playing with bands
including those of Lucky Millinder and Fats Waller before joining the Count
Basie Orchestra in 1945. Love performed on the Count Basie hit record “Open the
Door Richard” (1947), which reached Number 1. Love later collaborated with
artists including Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, and Ray Charles. In the 1960s,
