Ping Ping, also known as Ping Pong, was the stage name of Surinamese singer Eddy
Helder. He began his singing career in 1952 with Eddy Gaddum’s orchestra in
Antwerp and later performed with the orchestra of Belgian bandleader Al Verlane.
Backed by Al Verlane’s orchestra, he released the Spanish-language single “Sucu
Sucu” in 1960. The song was an early cover of a composition originally recorded
the previous year by Bolivian singer-songwriter Tarateño Rojas. Helder
