Leroy Phillip Mitchell, known professionally as Phillip Mitchell, and born on
June 27, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, is an American R&B singer-songwriter and
producer. He began his musical journey initially learning trumpet before
teaching himself guitar and piano. Mitchell's early career included stints with
local groups such as the Checkmates and the Cash Registers. In 1969, he signed
with Muscle Shoals Sound label as a songwriter, where he penned hits like "It
Hurts So Good" for Millie Jackson and "Starting All Over Again" for Mel and Tim.
